Compare 7 Laptops with Intel Core Ultra 7 155U
The Intel Core Ultra 7 155U presented in December 2023 is a power-saving mid-range CPU from Intel's new Meteor Lake generation.
Technical data and performance of the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U
The Intel Core Ultra 7 155U has two performance cores that support hyperthreading and eight efficiency cores. In the new tile/chiplet design, two additional low-power efficiency cores are also installed on the low-power island, which then take over in idle mode and at low load, thus helping to save power. This means that the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U has six fewer performance cores available than its cousin, the Intel Core i7 155H. The Intel Core Ultra 7 155U has a total of 14 threads and 12 MB Smart Cache, which can be used to quickly retrieve and process frequently used data. That's 8 threads less and only half as much cache as the 155H. Thanks to the reduction in performance, Intel can reduce power consumption to up to 15 watts; in low-power mode, the CPU only requires 12 watts, but then only clocks at 700 MHz. In boost mode, the consumption can increase to up to 57 watts, then the CPU clocks at up to 4.8 GHz. In comparison: The Intel Core Ultra 7 155H clocks up to 4.8 GHz with three times the number of performance cores, but also consumes more than twice as much energy.
Integrated graphics card and additional functions
The Intel Core Ultra 7 155U uses Intel UHD Graphics with four cores, which is based on the new Arc architecture, but is not allowed to call itself that. In addition to the four Xe cores, it has 64 EUs, four ray tracing units, four samplers, 2 pixel backends and achieves a maximum of 1.95 GHz, which puts its performance far behind the Arc iGPUs. Not much is yet known about the performance in practice, but in terms of numbers, this iGPU should still be able to overshadow the Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 96 EUs, which clocks at a maximum of 1.35GHz and is used in the Intel Core i5-14500HX, for example. So even with the iGPU in the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U, everyday tasks in the office environment as well as media playback and surfing should not be a problem.
The Intel Core Ultra 7 155U supports WiFi 6E and Thunderbolt. The memory controller is identical to that in the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H and supports up to 96 GB DDR5-5600 or up to 64 GB LPDDR5x-7467 RAM.
Conclusion
All in all, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U is a solid mid-range processor that can be used for everyday work and leisure. It is a good choice for anyone looking for an energy-efficient CPU.
