Compare 2 Laptops with Intel Core i7-14650HX
The Intel Core i7-14650HX is a processor for laptops and notebooks that was launched on the market in January 2024. It belongs to Intel's Raptor Lake Refresh series and is the successor to the Intel Core i7-13650HX. Like its predecessor, the CPU is powerful and is often installed in high-end notebooks and gaming laptops.
Performance and specifications of the Intel Core i7-14650HX
Like last year's model, the Intel Core i7-14650HX has eight efficiency cores, but with eight performance cores, it has two more than the previous model. Two more of these multi-threaded cores translate into a total of 24 threads, four more than the Intel Core i7-13650HX. Intel specifies the TDP as 55 watts, but the power consumption can rise to up to 157 watts or even as low as 45 watts depending on the CPU load. Depending on requirements, the Intel Core i7-14650HX clocks between 1.6 and 5.2 GHz, which means it works up to 0.3 GHz faster than the i7-13650HX at peak times. This means that the Raptor Lake Refresh offshoot is capable of handling demanding tasks such as gaming, video rendering, image processing and other computing-intensive challenges. With these performance features, it can also be used in workstations. The Intel Core i7-14700HX with its total of 20 cores clocks 0.3 GHz faster in boost mode. 30 MB of L3 cache enable the Intel Core i7-14650HX to retrieve and process frequently used data quickly. Compared to its predecessor, the processor has a higher memory bandwidth and is compatible with faster RAM, which improves the performance of the CPU. In previous benchmark tests, the Intel Core i7-14650HX outperformed its predecessor.
Integrated graphics card and additional functions
As with the Intel Core i7-14700HX, the Intel UHD Graphics 770 is used as the integrated graphics in the Intel Core i7-14650HX. However, at 1.6 GHz, it clocks slightly faster in both CPUs than in the respective predecessor CPUs. Everyday tasks such as mailing, office applications, surfing and streaming are not too much of a challenge for the iGPU. Although other CPUs with iGPUs from the Intel Xe and Intel Arc series have more powerful integrated graphics units, as the i7-14650HX is usually installed in a system with a dedicated graphics card, this should not be a major problem.
The CPU can be installed with up to 192 GB DDR5 RAM with up to 5600 MT/s, which means compatibility with more and better RAM compared to the predecessor. The memory connection is the same as that of the more powerful i7-14700HX.
Overall, the Intel Core i7-14650HX is a powerful processor designed for demanding tasks such as gaming and creative work. With its increased clock speed, multiple cores and threads, and support for faster storage media, it offers outstanding performance and is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a reliable and powerful processor.
The Intel Core i7-14650HX can already be found in devices with larger cases that offer enough space for adequate cooling and a dedicated graphics solution. The first models can be found in Lenovo's Legion series, for example. However, with its nominally better price-performance ratio, the Intel Core i7-14700HX could be a better alternative.
