Intel Core i7-1355U - high-end notebook CPU with 10 cores
The Intel Core i7-1355U is a powerful processor from Intel's 13th generation, codenamed Raptor Lake. It has been on the market since 04.01.2022 and is manufactured using the 10nm process. As in the Alder Lake series, Intel processors in the Raptor Lake series work with a combination of performance and efficiency cores. Like the Intel Core i5-1335U, the Intel Core i7-1355U has 8 efficiency cores and 2 performance cores. With the Intel Core i7-1355U, however, these clock up to 0.4 GHz higher than the mid-range model at 5.00 GHz in the Turbo clock.
As the powerful performance cores are multithreaded, the Intel Core i7-1355U has 12 threads. Like the i5-1335U, the Intel Core i7 1355U has 12 MB of L3 cache. Despite the higher clock frequencies, both processors consume the same amount of energy with 15W base power consumption according to the manufacturer's specifications. Intel markets processors under the U specification, which are characterized by their relatively low power consumption.
The Intel Core i7-1355U supports Thunderbolt 4 and WiFi 6E. Like its predecessor, the Intel Core i7-1265U, it supports up to 64 GB of RAM. However, the models differ in terms of the supported memory types: The Intel Core i7-1355U can be combined with faster memory types, including the fast LPDDR5/x with 6400 MT/s data transfer rate.
Strong performance with usable integrated graphics
Like its predecessor, the Intel Core i7-1355U is equipped with the integrated Intel Iris Xe processor graphics with 96 execution units. Unlike the Intel Core i7-1265U, however, it can clock at up to 1.30 GHz here. Due to the lack of dedicated graphics memory, the GPU has to make use of the system memory. Due to the faster supported memory types mentioned, the Raptor Lake model promises advantages over the Alder Lake model. With this GPU, everyday tasks in the leisure and office sector, including light video and image editing, through to less graphics-intensive games can be handled without any problems. It puts the AMD Raden RX Vega 7 and AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 from competitor AMD in the shade.
A high-end and gaming processor, such as the Intel Core i7-13700HX, offers more performance, but also has a base power consumption of 55 watts. This is usually combined with a dedicated high-end notebook graphics card in gaming and creative work notebooks. You can find it in HP Omen and Lenovo Legion models, for example. Thanks to its relatively low power consumption, the Intel Core i7-1355U can be installed in fairly lightweight notebooks with not too large or no fans. It is occasionally combined with dedicated graphics cards in the lower mid-range, for example in HP Envy and Lenovo ThinkPad models.
