New gaming and high-end CPU with improved AI
The AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS is a processor for mobile devices that was launched in December 2023 and is positioned in the high-end and gaming segment. It is part of the new Hawk Point series and is based on the Zen 4 architecture.
Technical data and performance of the AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS
The technical data and performance features of the AMD Ryzen 8 8845HS are the same as those of the AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS. Both mobile CPUs have 8 Zen cores, which can process up to 16 threads simultaneously thanks to multithreading. In addition, 16MB L3 and 8MB L2 cache are available for fast processing of frequently used data. AMD puts the TDP at 35W, while consumption can rise to up to 54W. The basic clock rate of the CPU is 3.8GHz, with the cores clocking up to 5.1GHz in boost mode. According to the S suffix, the processor cannot be overclocked.
The similarity in structure and design is also reflected in the performance: In various benchmarks, the AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS and AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS can achieve very similar to identical scores.
Integrated graphics card and additional functions
The AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS uses the AMD Radeon 780M integrated graphics card based on RDNA 3, which has 12 ray tracing computing units and clocks at up to 2.7 GHz. The iGPU also integrates an AV1 video engine and the AI accelerator is said to be faster than the AI engine of the Apple M2. Demanding games should be able to be played at a lower detail level and 720p, while games with less detail should also run smoothly at a medium to high detail level. In gaming notebooks in which this CPU is found, the iGPU plays a subordinate role: dedicated graphics cards are usually used here. However, the new, higher clocked AI engine gives the CPU a clear advantage over the AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS: the up to 16 TOPS help the CPU to increase performance, particularly in audio, image and video processing.
The AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS is suitable for a wide range of users without far outperforming other CPUs in any one area of application. You can therefore find it in business notebooks, multimedia devices and gaming laptops. For those for whom the improved AI engine plays a subordinate role, the AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS is also a good choice or can also consider the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS for higher clock rates.
