Compare 3 Laptops with AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS
The AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS is a chip for mobile devices that was launched on the market in January 2023 and can be used in a wide range of applications. It corresponds to the Zen 4 architecture and is manufactured using the 4nm process.
Technical data and performance of the AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS
The technical data and performance features of the AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS are the same as those of the AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 7840HS. Both mobile CPUs have 8 Zen cores, which can process up to 16 threads thanks to multithreading. In addition, 16MB L3 and 8MB L2 cache are available for fast processing of frequently used data. AMD puts the TDP at 35W, while consumption can rise to up to 54W. The basic clock rate of the CPU is 3.8GHz, in boost the cores clock up to 5.1GHz. According to the S suffix, the processor cannot be overclocked.
In the Cinebench 2024 single-core benchmark, the CPU can compete with the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H and, for example, beat the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U, which can be seen as an energy-saving model with the same design from our own company. In the multi-core benchmark, the performance is comparable to the Intel Core i9-12900HK and Intel Core i5-13500HX, while the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H is clearly beaten. In the Geekbench 6.2 benchmark, the AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 7840HS achieves about as many points in single-core mode as several 13th generation Intel Core i7 CPUs, including the Intel Core i7-13700H and Intel Core i7-13700HX. In multi-core mode, Intel's processors, including the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, have a slight advantage.
Integrated graphics card and additional functions
The AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS uses the AMD Radeon 780M integrated graphics card based on RDNA 3. This has 12 ray tracing computing units and clocks at up to 2.7 GHz. The iGPU also integrates an AV1 video engine and the AI accelerator is said to be faster than the AI engine of the Apple M2. Demanding games should be able to be played at a lower detail level and 720p, while games with less detail should also run smoothly at a medium to high detail level. The iGPU plays a subordinate role in gaming notebooks: dedicated graphics cards are usually used here.
The AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS is suitable for a wide range of users without far outperforming other CPUs in one area of application. It can therefore be found in business notebooks, multimedia devices and gaming laptops.
