AMD Ryzen 5 5500U - solid everyday performance
The AMD Ryzen 5 5500U has six Zen 2 cores with a base clock speed of 2.1 GHz. Like its predecessor, the AMD Ryzen 5 4500U, it can clock at up to 4 GHz in turbo mode. There is also a hyperthreading function, which distinguishes it from its predecessor. This means that the AMD Ryzen 5 5500U can calculate on up to 12 virtual threads.
The 7 nm manufacturing process that is still used, as well as the configurable TDP of 15 - 25 watts, allows it to be installed in small and lightweight notebooks.
Evolution instead of revolution
As the AMD Ryzen 5 5500U hardly differs from its predecessor apart from the hyperthreading function, it is more powerful for multi-threaded tasks in particular and less so for single-threaded tasks.
An AMD Radeon RX Vega 7 graphics card is integrated into the processor, which operates at 1800 MHz. Everyday office and web tasks are therefore no problem.
This makes the 5500U suitable for multitasking tasks, but current AAA games are not within its performance range. Those who only occasionally play less graphically demanding games in Full HD will not be disappointed. With a dedicated GPU, such as in the Acer Aspire 7 A715-42G-R0XB, significantly more demanding tasks can of course be mastered. This should make it possible to use Photoshop and video editing programs.
Like similar processors of the Lucienne architecture, the AMD Ryzen 5 5500U meets all the requirements for mobile and fast work and can therefore be classified as a mid-range processor.
