Laptops with Windows 11

The majority of all laptop models are sold with a pre-installed operating system - and in most cases this is now a Windows 11 version. Windows operating systems have long dominated the market. The latest version of Microsoft's operating system has been on the market since October 2021. Compared to Windows 10, which was originally intended to be the last Microsoft operating system, it brings a number of new features. Windows 11 is primarily designed for productivity and gaming. At the same time, Windows 11 brings with it numerous new functions, which come to the fore in 2-in-1 convertibles, for example. We tell you which Windows laptop you should buy.

Who Are Laptops with Windows 11 Perfect for?

Windows 11 is the Swiss army knife of laptop operating systems: You can use pretty much all applications that the depths of the Internet have to offer. Gamers will be delighted with the broad support of all necessary programs and drivers. Thanks to the emulation of older operating systems, Windows can run not only the latest games, but also games from past decades with little effort. Last but not least, laptops with Windows 11 cover a very broad spectrum in terms of price - from budget laptops to high-end gaming laptops, Apple aside, every well-known manufacturer such as Lenovo or HP relies on the operating system.

As support for Windows 10 is not expected to end until October 2025, an upgrade to Windows 11 is not yet mandatory. However, most new devices will already be delivered with it anyway.

Which Advantages Does Windows 11 Offer over Windows 10?

The switch is probably most worthwhile for two groups in particular: People who want to work with their machine and/or play games. The former benefit from the fact that Windows 11 is optimized for collaboration with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure. Thanks to the possibility of direct login to Azure Active Directory, all documents stored in Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online or OneDrive for Business are available to you. These can then be displayed faster, more effectively and more clearly in Windows 11. Microsoft Teams is also integrated directly into Windows 11.
For gamers, Direct Storage should be of primary interest. Thanks to the revised function, which allows the graphics card to access the SSD directly, games can be accelerated considerably. If games with very good graphics support the function, you can expect noticeably shorter loading times.

For everyone else, the changes are limited to visual aspects of the user interface. The Start menu looks tidier and is initially arranged in the middle by default, but this can be changed and moved back to the usual left-hand corner. Windows 11 looks pleasantly tidy compared to Windows 10: There are fewer pre-installed apps, context menus are more clearly laid out and the settings menu, which is set to gradually replace the Control Panel, has been improved. Widgets can also be installed, digital desktops can be customized more flexibly, the operating system suggests optimized arrangements for multiple windows on a desktop and also has better snap control than Windows 10.

Things to bear in mind:

What the new, tidy design brings with it are longer click paths for some functions, but once you get used to it, these should no longer be so important. A network connection is also required to install the operating system and you will need a Microsoft account. Windows 11 also requires a TPM 2.0 module, which increases the security of the system.

Deciding on a new Laptop: Display Size is Crucial

If you have decided that your laptop should use Windows 11 as its operating system, the question remains: How big can the display be? Windows laptops are available in sizes ranging from 11 inches to 17 inches. A few cheaper models are equipped with HD resolution, but the majority are equipped with full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels). Premium devices also test the limits and deliver WQHD or even 4K. However, there are other decisions that go hand in hand with the form factor. Generally speaking, larger devices not only accommodate more powerful processors, more RAM or larger SSD storage, but also more ports. So if you need multiple connections for a keyboard, monitor and printer, for example, you can no longer do without a dongle or USB-C hub on smaller laptops.

Depending on the application scenario, you have to decide between screen size and mobility: If you tend to travel a lot and only have a small laptop compartment in your backpack, laptops with Windows 11 and a display diagonal of 13 inches are ideal for you. 13-inch laptops start in the mid-range in terms of price and tend to be more upmarket, as most of the selection can be found in the 2-in-1 convertibles segment. At the same time, manufacturers have to fit ever better hardware into less space, which is reflected in the prices. But even at this size, there are no limits to the resolution. 4K? No problem.

If, on the other hand, the new laptop is to be used as a computer replacement and mainly at home, machines with larger displays might be just right for you. The most common here are devices with a 15.6-inch diagonal: These laptops are still portable, but can be used more productively due to the larger screen. But even the Netflix series in between benefits from more space on the screen. Full HD resolution has become the standard for this size, meaning that even entry-level laptops under 500 pounds offer a sharp picture. Gamers and creators with high demands on RAM, processor or graphics card will also find options, as will bargain hunters and students on a budget.

If the laptop with Windows 11 is mainly used for stationary use, it is also worth looking at offers for laptops with a 17-inch display. Here you can see by far the most and can, for example, place several windows next to each other at the same time without running out of space on the display. With an additional graphics card installed, 17-inch laptops are often particularly powerful and compete with stationary PCs.

2-in-1 Convertibles with Windows 11

The popular operating system supports a wide range of different devices: Devices with Windows 11 don't just follow the conventional laptop design. There is also the so-called convertible category, for example. These laptops with touchscreen are characterized by a hinge that allows the display to be tilted 360 degrees. This allows you to use the device not only as a laptop, but also as a tablet. This makes digital drawing or photo editing easier for many. The 2-in-1 category also includes detachable models such as the Microsoft Surface series, where the tablet and keyboard can be separated. This significantly increases flexibility even further.

Ultrabooks with Windows 11

Devices with Windows 11 that are a maximum of 20 millimetres thick, offer a battery life of more than nine hours, and a touchscreen can officially be called Ultrabook by Intel. They can keep up with their larger siblings in terms of processor, RAM and SSD. Only the graphics often rely on an integrated unit in favor of the battery life, which, however, copes well with everyday use. Ultrabooks are often equipped with 13-inch displays, which usually offer more than Full HD resolution.

Gaming Machines with Windows 11

If you want to play games on laptops with Windows 11, you should consider one of the many gaming laptops. They are equipped with an additional graphics card and can therefore also run demanding 3D games. So nothing stands in the way of a round or two of "Grand Theft Auto", "Diablo" or "Cyberpunk 2077." Instead of power-saving, underclocked CPUs, the processors here are designed for performance and rarely pay much attention to battery life. The rest of the hardware can also be configured to the extreme: dozens of gigabytes of RAM or several terabytes of SSD storage are just a few clicks away.

Windows 11: Security by Default

If you choose a laptop with Windows 10, you don't need to worry about an overly complicated setup. The setup wizard for Microsoft's operating system is intuitive and can be completed in just a few minutes. You have the option to choose your own privacy settings in many places - so your information always remains in your hands. The Microsoft operating system is available in two versions: Windows 11 Home and Windows 11 Pro. For you, the difference is almost irrelevant: Windows 11 Pro only offers the additional BitLocker encryption for privately used laptops. This is particularly interesting for sensitive data.

Windows 11 comes with Windows Defender, among other things. This is the virus scanner that protects you from online threats. Malicious "ransomware", which encrypts files and only releases them again for a ransom, is also blocked with Windows' own on-board tools. You can therefore do without costly third-party virus scanners with a clear conscience.

Windows 11 also has an extensive driver database. No matter what you connect to the laptop via USB: The device is recognised in just a few seconds, eliminating the need for driver CDs or a lengthy additional setup. Support for older peripherals means that previously used mice, keyboards, hard drives and other accessories can also be used. The only downer: some laptop manufacturers install numerous programmes in advance, which attract negative attention as "bloatware". Some of these can actually prove useful in everyday use, while others simply take up valuable storage space. You can remove these unnecessary programmes with just a few clicks in the control panel under "Uninstall programmes."
