MacBook Overview
For a few years now, Apple has had a wider selection of display sizes in its range again. The MacBook Air is available in two sizes, the MacBook Pro is available with two different screen diagonals. So there is something for all needs. The largest current model weighs up to 1.62 kg, while the smallest MacBook Air is very slim at just about 1,24 kg.

As mentioned, the slim laptop format also has its downsides: The MacBook Air only comes with Thunderbolt 4 ports. Adapters are required for external monitors, projectors, keyboards, storage media and everything else, which can quickly add up to a considerable sum. With MacBook Pro models, however, things have changed again: Here, in addition to several Thunderbolt 4 ports, there are also HDMI ports and card readers. One strength that Apple has always given its devices is their impressive battery life - the manufacturer promises more than ten hours on every model, which you can achieve with moderate use. It often helps to turn down the display brightness of the Apple laptop a little to make it last a little longer.
Apple M: Superior Chips
For a long time, turning little electricity into lots of power was actually the sole domain of ARM, whose processor architecture has always supported increasingly powerful smartphones. Apple is adapting this architecture and applying it to mobile computers with its first own MacBook processor. The Apple M has come to stay - which is why the same chip can be found in different versions in both the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro series. PowerPC to Intel was the first major upheaval in Apple's processor world, followed 15 years later by the second. What is particularly special is that it combines RAM and the unit responsible for security into one chip.
Apple MacBook Air – For Students and Beginners
The MacBook Air is currently the most affordable option for immersing yourself in Apple's laptop world. With a display diagonal of 13.6 or 15.3 inches, the so-called Retina resolution of 2560 x 1664 and 2880 x 1864 pixels respectively looks razor-sharp, which is not only popular with multimedia users when editing photos, but also with text creators. There are also features such as a backlit keyboard and the huge Force Touch trackpad, which has long since won its fans. The aluminum housing is amazingly light despite the solid workmanship and thus lives up to its device name.
Thanks to the new M-Chip, the MacBook Air is ready for use as soon as it is opened and applications respond in seconds. Finally, it works entirely without a fan, making it an almost unnoticeable companion in everyday life.

The two models only differ in detail, so bargain hunters who really want a MacBook can't go wrong with the cheapest version. Those who need more memory are well advised to go straight for the more expensive model, as it offers two additional GPU cores for a small surcharge. The cheapest MacBook Air starts at around 1.000 pounds, and upgrades to the RAM or a larger SSD can almost double the price.
Apple MacBook Pro – For Creatives and Developers
The MacBook Pro has always been the top end of the laptop portfolio. But for the highest price, you also get the most power and the finest extras that Apple has come up with. The Retina display is just as sharp as on the MacBook Air, but with a higher contrast rate, dynamic refresh rate and a touch brighter. Meanwhile, the choice between the two devices with different screen diagonals and versions is reserved for Apple's own M-Chips. The latter differ significantly in terms of the number of cores and the amount of RAM.

The Retina display is not the only reason why the MacBook Pro is so exciting for creative users who also expect a little more power under the hood. Software such as Final Cut X or Logic Pro can make use of more RAM and slightly more powerful graphics and can be shown on up to four external displays. The RAM can be configured up to 96 gigabytes, the SSD memory even up to eight terabytes. Details such as the latest Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E or slightly more powerful speakers round off the premium package.

While Apple had actually settled on 13 inches as the standard and almost perfect display size, the surprise came in fall 2019: for the first time, there was a MacBook with a 16-inch screen. As it is part of the Pro series, the hardware is correspondingly powerful. Apple now also has a 14-inch MacBook Pro and a 15-inch MacBook Air in its range.

Furthermore, the available memory and storage leave nothing to be desired. Up to 96 gigabytes of RAM and eight terabytes of SSD memory provide space for extensive media databases and complex video editing projects. Of course, all this comes at a price. Unfortunately, you won't get very far with this model series for less than 1,000 pounds, with the absolute top configuration even costing more than 6,500 pounds.
